I haven't read W. I get annoyed by Vogue, because it doesn't focus on the clothes enough. Too many big designers sell poorly made clothes and make all their money off of perfume.

Women's Wear Daily has an online version, if you're worried about having too much paper.

I wish that magazines spent more time focusing on how really good garments are constructed.

Hey, Abby -- I've been meaning to respond to your kind emails (it's that damn Wall of Good Intentions again). I used to read WWD when I was a student at the Art Institute of Colorado, back when I thought I wanted to work in the fashion industry. It's a lot of paper to invite into my already papered home, but interesting. I cancelled my subscription after about a year becuase I just fell behind. You've read W, the big format glossy? It's published by Fairchild, which does WWD, and is a fancy version of the WWD daily. Lots of gossip, which I don't need, and I don't love their photo spreads (too blurry, not enough about the CLOTHES), but you could sample and see what you think.

I have been thinking about clipping my favorite fashions from films. It shouldn't be that hard, if you get the DVD and watch it on the computer.

There's an amazing black Yves Saint Laurent dress that Catherine Deneuve wears in Belle de Jour that I would love to have copied.

Have you ever tried Women's Wear Daily? Sometimes I get tired of Vogue, and I'd love to go straight to the source, because off-the-rack clothes never fit.
